Brand The not-for-profit and artisan-owned Society DWARAKA PLUS (Development of Weavers and Rural Artisans in Kalamkari Art) was founded in 1998 by Anita Reddy along with her father Dwaraknath Reddy to revive the dying hand-painted art form of kalamkari, build a sustainable platform for the artisan communities and empower women with livelihood programs along with rejuvenating the entire region (Srikalahasti of Andhra Pradesh, South India) DWARAKA PLUS’s artists are experts in the ancient traditional form of Kalamkari. DWARAKA worked to develop an entirely new and exclusive dimension to kalamkari by designing a comprehensive product range that caters to the needs of a global market. Through these new kalamkari products the efforts of artists were sustained and the scope for the art's survival was widened. In just three years the DWARAKA effort has grown immensely, buttressed by the support of several non-profit organizations and cultural platforms, and has gained national and international recognition for the innovation and social empowerment that the team has worked to cultivate.
